Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S Lens

The nikon 85mm f/1.8 S opens to f/1.8 at the classic portrait focal length, providing strong subject isolation and consistent light-gathering for studio, available-light, and outdoor portrait photography on Nikon Z-mount full-frame cameras.

A multi-focus system with two independently controlled focus groups delivers fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus across the focus range, supporting Nikon's 3D subject tracking and eye-detection AF on compatible Z-series camera bodies.

Multiple aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion glass elements control spherical aberration, field curvature, and chromatic aberration at f/1.8, delivering high center and edge sharpness and accurate color rendering from wide open through the aperture range.

Dual coatings suppress flare from different angles of light incidence: Nano Crystal Coat addresses light entering from oblique angles, while ARNEO Coat targets near-parallel light rays, together maintaining contrast in backlit portrait conditions.

Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth and circular out-of-focus highlights across the aperture range, delivering the creamy three-dimensional background rendering that defines a premium portrait prime for professional and enthusiast photographers.

A customizable control ring on the barrel allows direct assignment of aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation, and an L-Fn button on the barrel provides quick access to a user-defined camera function during portrait sessions.

A smooth and precisely damped manual focus ring provides responsive focus-by-wire control for fine adjustments during portrait shoots and video focus pulls, with enough rotation travel for precise manual focusing at the 85mm portrait distance.

Designed for the Nikon Z mount and covering the full 35mm image circle, this lens is compatible with all Nikon Z-series full-frame mirrorless cameras and provides an equivalent 127.5mm focal length on Nikon Z DX APS-C bodies.
